Posting for self-employed – foreigners in possession of the qualification of “manager or highly specialized person” can also enter Italy to carry out self-employment services.

Posting for the self-employed is an increasingly popular service. The posting procedure for the self-employed

The application for authorisation to carry out self-employment services is managed directly by the competent diplomatic or consular representations in the country of origin of the foreign worker.

The authorization can be requested for a fixed period for a maximum period of 2 years, and in any case linked to the duration of the posting to Italy, which can be extended for a further 2 years plus 1, up to a total of 5 years.

At the end of the temporary transfer, however, it is possible to be hired on a fixed-term or permanent basis with the company that has requested the work authorization. This can happen even before the limit of 5 years that can be granted with the issuance of a clearance and subsequent extensions is reached.

Once the authorization has been obtained, the company notifies the foreign worker who is thus able to book an appointment at the Consulate competent for the territory for the collection of the entry visa for Italy.

Upon arrival in Italy, the worker must go, no later than eight days from the date of entry, to the Immigration Desk to sign the residence contract and to collect the necessary forms (form 209) at the next request for a residence permit.

Subsequently, the 209 form must be sent to the competent Police Headquarters by sending the postal kit requesting the residence permit.

The law provides that the residence permit for the manager/highly specialized staff is issued for the duration of the period of secondment authorized with the Nulla Osta/extension issued.

The residence permit can be renewed in the event of extensions of the authorization.
